People prefer things with outcomes, as if to say that once you start a relationship it should culminate in a successful outcome, and that this seems to be the only meaning of romance. But many things don't work that way. Of course, meeting someone you truly care about is still a wonderful experience. I've always felt that university romances are particularly blissful and magical, and not experiencing one would be somewhat regrettable.
